Process
A. Each student will investigate tessellations on the
internet and write a clear definition of a tessellation on the worksheet provided by
the teacher. Write neatly and answer with complete sentences.

B. The following questions should be answered using
information from the sites
given below the questions. Be sure to use complete sentences in your
answers.
1. What are some of the civilizations that used tessellations in their artwork?
2. Where were tessellations found in each of 5 of these
civilizations?
3. What do we know about M. C. Escher and his work?
C. Each student will read the steps for drawing the
tessellations given below and will draw the tessellations in the spaces provided
on the worksheet by hand.

D. Each student will create two tessellations of their own;
one of which begins with a triangle and the other of which begins with a
square. These should be done by hand on a separate sheet of unlined paper
and should each cover half of the sheet. Extra credit for the
project will be given for adding color to these designs. Also,
if anyone would like to use The Geometer's Sketchpad on the computer and do
extra tessellations, these would also be worth extra credit.
